High Life makes Johanna Schneller’s 10 best films of 2010

Johanna Schneller writes :

High Life. No one saw this terrific anti-caper (“Four hapless drug addicts plot to rob an ATM”), and that’s a shame, because it is witty, well-acted, tons of fun and – get this! – Canadian. It was made for peanuts, and if there were any justice in the world, it would have grossed millions. So go get the DVD right now, bid farewell to 2010, and start your new year right.”

Good news Canada – The DVD for “High Life” is now out and available at your favourite on-line, retail, and rental stores!

As a special “thanks” for waiting a little bit longer the Canadian DVD is the nicest yet containing bonus material not available on any other disk, a new transfer directly from the original masters, english captioning, and discrete 2.0 and 5.1 audio mixes so it sounds great no matter where or how you watch it!

For more information on the “High Life” DVD (including information for US or International fans) please check out the DVD Information Page

High Life DVD

For everyone who has been clamouring for information, “High Life” DVD release details for the USA and Canada are now available!

The disc will be available on March 16th, in the US at fine on-line and traditional retailers everywhere (and is already available for pre-order at most on-line retailers).

Canadian fans of the film will have to wait a couple of extra weeks until “early May”. (Although we are told we’ll be able to replace that with an exact date very shortly). In exchange for the wait, the Canadian DVD contains high-resolution copies of the interview and behind-the-scenes vignettes from the web, discrete Dolby 2.0 and Dolby 5.1 mixes, and the theatrical trailer for the film.

High Life fans outside of North America will have to hold on for more information about DVD releases in your area – but if you sign up to the mailing list we’ll send a note around when the film is available near you!

Johanna Schneller at the Globe and Mail has a great interview with Timothy Olyphant about his recent work, including (of course) “High Life”! Thanks Johnanna for calling the film “clever and hilarious”!

Dick

Over at Footprints…. Christy Bharath has written an impressively completist mass-review of movies featuring Timothy Olyphant. What did he think of “High Life”?

I seriously haven’t had this much fun watching two guys screw up their lives since Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith in The Cottage.

Thanks Christy!

The Music of “High Life”

Billy

One of the most common questions we get asked is what certain pieces of music in the film are (classic rock purists are aghast right now, but it’s true).

So to help out, here’s a complete list of the songs used in the film:

April Wine

  • Roller
  • You Could Have Been a Lady
  • I like to Rock
  • Say Hello

Creedence Clearwater Revival

  • Have you Ever Seen the Rain

Max Webster

  • Diamonds, Diamonds

New Order

  • Age of Consent

Pagliaro

  • Some Sing, Some Dance

Three Dog Night

  • Mama Told Me Not to Come

And for the true completest, and some have asked, yes Keith Mansfields “International Athletics” is hidden in there as well.

Bug

Okay, Calgary, Kanata, Kelowna, Montreal, and Vancouver – “High Life” is now playing in a theatre near you.

If the Vancouver Sun and Montreal Gazette are any indication the film will (hopefully) be as well received as it continues to be in Toronto, and Winnipeg.

As always our screening information has all the details on theatres, links to buy tickets on-line, and information on upcoming openings in other Canadian cities!

New “Behind The Scenes” Video

In honor of High Life’s big opening weekend in Toronto and Winnipeg, we’ve got a brand-new “Behind the Scenes” video for you:

Enjoy this sneak peak – and don’t forget to check out the movie when it opens near you!
